Seed planting for Summer Fair
We have been super busy working to make things for our Summer Fair stall. We planted seeds. We have looked after them really well and now they have grown into plants. Why not come and buy one from our stall?
This afternoon, some of us chose to write stories. We then read them to the class. We hope to get enough stories to begin our very own library. Mrs Miles was very impressed with our punctuation (some of us included speech marks - WOW), our spelling, the plots (with beginnings, middles and ends) and our illustrations. She is immensely proud of who we have become.
Bench Making at Break
Today during afternoon break, some children made a bench out of the blocks -what excellent engineering skills! They then let everyone rest their weary legs after a long day of learning. Great sharing Ash class.
Year 1 Volume in Maths
This week in Year 1, we have been working on volume and measuring in millilitres. We got a bit wet – Luckily it was sunny so we dried off!
Year 1 Mass
Weighing Mass We have been weighing mass. We used the opportunity to make biscuits for the Summer Fair. We look forward to seeing you there!
Year 1 Weather
In Science, Year 1 have been looking at the weather. We've been busy cloud watching, doing experiments with ice and food colouring, researching Charles Thompson Rees Wilson on the iPads and recording our own weather reports in ICT. We definitely have some of our very own TV stars!
Year 1 Calligraphy
In Year 1, we have been looking at calligraphy - in both English and Japanese - to go with our Houksai work. The children have enjoyed it immensely. Here are some pictures of us painting Japanese words for ‘water’ and ‘picture’.
Year 1 Hokusai
This week Year 1 have been learning about Hokusai - a Japanese artist. We have also begun our Learn it's in Big Maths. We get one minute to answer as many mathematical questions as possible! We love the Big Maths song - it's very catchy.
Year 1 Wild days
We have also begun our Wildlife Trust 'Wild Days' - where we do wild things everyday! Today we looked outside for wildlife things and based our English writing on what we found. We used adjectives to describe and obviously didn't forget our full stops and capital letters. We had lots of fun.
